Home-made waffles

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I gave Elli a waffle maker for Valentine's day.

I know it's a bit of an unusual gift. Most people give chocolate or candies.

The thing is, she's been begging for one. Her friend Lou Lou brings Belgian waffles to school everyday and Elli is so jealous. She wanted to make her own waffles too. But I didn't really want a waffle maker. They're so big and clunky, where would I put that in our shoebox-sized kitchen?

It must have been on my mind, because who stops at Bed Bath and Beyond for a last-minute Valentine's gift? I do.

I thought I would find a cute thing for her room, or some candy, but I couldn't find anything. I was starting to panic. It was almost 6pm, Valentine's day was tomorrow. Why did I wait so long to find something. ***sigh**** Then I turned the corner and saw waffle makers.

Bingo.

I knew right then I had to get it for her. Plus, Cuisinart had one that was really tiny, and seemed really easy to use. Yeah!

I immediately had second thoughts. This was going to be for Valentine's day. Is that weird?

Yes, it's weird.

Do I care? No.

Will she love it? Y.E.S.

Don thought I was crazy. Who gives someone a waffle maker for Valentine's day? It's not like I need to give her a romantic gift, she's my kid.

This is way different than some dude who gives his wife a blender for Valentine's day. She's not my spouse. She's my waffle-loving daughter.

She loved it, and she's been making waffles like crazy. She even gets up a little early in the morning to make them before school!

She made a special breakfast for me and Don today.  I asked if she needed help in the kitchen and she shooed me away.

"Mom, I don't need help. I know exactly what I need. 1 1/2 cups of mix, 1 egg, 3/4 cup of water, 3 t. oil. It's so easy. I got this." she said full of sass.

Well, okay then.

Holy cow. There's a little mini me in the house.

WOOT WOOT!!!!

Yes, we got a cookie to dunk with our waffle. It was the ultimate breakfast for a 10 year old.

Jealous?

And guess what? You know how cupcakes are all the RAGE right now? The next big thing will be waffles. Just watch. You heard it here first.

  1. What a great idea.........she loves to do things in the kitchen.....with a little luck she will take over and you can sit and have a glass of wine with Don while she makes you a gourmet feast....Way to go Elli!
    Love you, Mimi
