Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Today is my parents 50th wedding anniversary.

Fifty years.

Don and I just celebrated our twentieth. I thought that was a big deal.

But fifty? Wow.

I'm not really surprised they've been married fifty years. They are the perfect couple. They've made it through so many cross country moves I've lost count, four kids, economic upturns and downturns and they still love each other and enjoy each others company. You can tell by the twinkle in my dads eye.

So I started thinking about what I think it takes to stay married fifty years.

Here's what I've observed.

You need a lot of.....
patience
laughter
good friends
martini's
olives
talking. lots of talking
great kids (had to add that)
faith
kisses
snacks
{hugs}
wine
dairy queen
a good reading chair
pets
amazing vacations
i love you's
trips to museums
happy hour
baseball games
peanuts
trips to Napa wineries
cheese and crackers
Neil Diamond "Sweet Caroline"
breakfast with friends
ice cream sundaes
golf shirts and khaki pants
nail polish, hair dye and lipstick
parties
music
half and half coffee
chardonnay with ice
and love........

We love you mom and dad. Have a great time celebrating in Palm Springs!

I guess I jumped the gun a little. My sister sent me a text this morning to inform me that TOMORROW, 9/2 is their anniversary. Not today. I was so worried about missing it, or being late,  that somehow I got it in my head that today was the big day.

Oh well.

I think they should start celebrating today anyway. I believe a glass or two of bubbly will do the trick.

Cheers!
